CHICAGO (CBS) — A celebration of life was held Sunday for fallen Chicago Police officer Ella French, in conjunction with the Mexican holiday Día de Muertos.

An ofrenda, or altar, was set up in Officer French’s memory outside the Chicago Lawn (8th) District police station, 3420 W. 63rd St.

Ofrendas showcase objects chosen carefully to remember a person who has died.

Officer French was killed on Aug. 7 during a traffic stop in West Englewood. She was 29 years old.
