CHICAGO — Multiple people were hospitalized after a building collapsed in South Austin Tuesday morning.

First responders were on the scene at a three-story apartment building just before 9:30 a.m. at Central Avenue and Washington Boulevard. At least 10 ambulances were at the location.

The building next door was evacuated, according to fire officials.

The Chicago Fire Department said multiple people were transported to the hospital. Witnesses said at least one person appeared to be in very serious condition.
