A Lansing man has been charged with carjacking a mother and her daughter at gunpoint Saturday in Oak Lawn before leading police on a chase through multiple suburbs.

Gregory Shipp allegedly approached the woman and her daughter in the driveway of their home in the 9700 block of Merton Avenue, and demanded their vehicle while pointing a gun, according to Oak Lawn police.

A witness followed Shipp as he allegedly fleed in the vehicle and was able to provide officers with his location, police said.

Officers saw the vehicle in the Speedway parking lot near 79th Street and Harlem Avenue in Bridgeview and Shipp took off leading police on a chase across multiple jurisdictions before crashing into another vehicle near 95th Street and LaGrange Road, police said.

The driver of the second vehicle refused medical attention at the scene but was later evaluated at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, police said.

After the crash, Shipp allegedly jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot into a forest preserve, police said.

He was found by the Burbank PD Canine Unit and was taken into custody, according to police. A loaded .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun was also recovered at the scene, police said.

Shipp remains on parole for a 2020 attempted murder conviction.

He has been charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking and remains held on a $750,000 bond.
