The Elgin Police Department wants to ease the requirements for applicants who want to sit for the entry level police officer examination. Elgin currently requires applicants to have a bachelor’s degree or 60 college credit hours along with other qualifications. They’re recommending changing the hiring ordinance to allow applicants with a high school diploma or GED.
