Due to the worldwide shortage of semiconductor chips, Ford Motor Co. said that it will idle its Chicago plant that builds its popular Explorer sport utility vehicle for one week starting April 12.

Ford said it will idle the Chicago plant, as well as plants in Flat Rock, Michigan, that builds the Mustang, as well as Kansas City plant that builds the Transit. An Ohio plant that builds heavy-duty trucks will go on a reduced schedule.
