Jessica Littmann, an Evanston resident and the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, recently co-sponsored a Rohingya refugee family – three young boys, their father and their pregnant mother, Nurzan Hussin. In the roughly six months since their arrival to Chicago, Jessica and Nurzan developed a deep friendship despite the language barrier and disparate backgrounds of the women, one Jewish the other Muslim. They recently celebrating the Hussin family’s first Thanksgiving in the United States at Littman’s home, eating a variety of multicultural dishes.
