Who Were the People in Our Neighborhoods?
CPL’s archives hold pieces of Chicagoans’ stories over time. Follow a path of memories from the City’s residents, some famous, some forgotten, as recorded in CPL’s Special Collections and Preservation Division.
You can find something from almost any neighborhood in one of our archives. CPL’s Special Collections, located at Harold Washington Library Center, covers neighborhoods primarily on Chicago’s West and South Sides. You can find history for Chicago’s North and Northwest side at CPL’s Sulzer Regional Library in the Northside Neighborhood History Collection. For neighborhood collections relating to the African American experience in Chicago, visit the Vivian G. Harsh Research Collection at CPL’s Woodson Regional Library.
