I would like to preface this post by saying that I am not an Oprah fan, but for those of you that follow me on Twitter, you may have been mislead by the abundance of Oprah Tweets. The truth is, since I work on Michigan Avenue, it was very hard to avoid the whole spectacle. From the sheer amount of people, to the bass shaking my office all day, I just had to know what was going on outside while I worked!
The actual performances… well, I didn’t stick around past the Chris Angel appearance. I’ll get to that in a second. The actual taping began with Oprah walking on stage, saying “Hi”, then introducing the Black Eyed Peas. I didn’t pay much attention to Oprah, but the girls that I was watching with seemed to think that Oprah looked great and they went on and on about her hair in the ponytail.

The Black Eyed Peas performance was great. The music was good, and I happen to really like the song they performed, “I Gotta Feeling”, but the real show stealer was the choreographed audience dance. It was awesome. Arm waving, bobbing up and down in sync and a move that made it look like a blob breathing (sorry! can’t think of a better way to describe it!). So I give them an A+
Now for the disappointment… Not a slight disappointment, a huge failure. Chris Angel. I had expected him to appear out of nowhere. Arriving in a huge cloud of smoke. Or better yet, rappelling from a nearby high rise. But no. Get this. Chris Angel walked up the stairs onto the stage. That was it. That was his great entrance. It was horrible. His performance was no better. He threw a Nerf ball into the crowd, invited the guy that caught the ball onto the stage, asked a few people for some random words they were thinking of, then opened a box. In the box was a piece of paper with the random words the people were thinking of. That was that.
And that was when I left my office from which I was watching this whole thing. The acts I missed were apparently Jennifer Hudson, James Taylor and a surprise guest which I understand to have been Jay-Z. Edit: False alarm. Bad information.
So there’s my great review of the Oprah event. The episode will air on Thursday, September 10th at 9am. I still think that she should have just had this in Millennium Park. What do you think?
Now for a few photos that I took.
